Star Wars 75109 Obi Wan Kenobi

I am back! After 3 years of disappearing into the abyss, I finally crawled out after remembering vaguely I still had this blog floating in cyberspace! I guess my blog title "Away From Work" is truly apt, for its only when that happens that I can exist here!

Anyway, so much has happened these past three years in the afw scene. I shall return to one of my favs.....LEGO! With the recent launch of the 2015 Disney Star Wars Series, I had to get my hands on some of the nicer sets.

Nice lineup!

Unfortunately, the Vader Sets were unavailable. Hope to complete the collection soon. Of course Obi-Wan has to come out of the box asap. So here he is after about 10 minutes...

Posing for the camera.

The photo may not exactly do justice to the well-built set. I like the color tones and the cloak truly look magnificent when the fan is blowing at it!

In any case, it's good to be back after sorting out where my photos has to go so I can type out my posts on my new Zagg keyboard attached to my mini. Yipee!

Update:

Here is a slightly better take of Obi-Wan.

A more stylish take.

Another update:

Well, with the haze getting to about 170+ here, it's starting to get a little uncomfortable.

Lego Star Wars 8088 ARC-170 Starfighter Part 2

Wow, it has been more than a month since I posted anything. Interestingly, I have had 100+ readers who came to take a peek at the various posts on the site. Thanks to whoever you are!

It has been a busy period and I am taking a slight breather to post this part 2. Have not build anything new for myself this past month either...sad...8(

Well, to cap it off, here's the various angle shots of the ARC-170 to whet the appetite. Enjoy!

Frontal shot from above - wings closed

Isometric view

Wings extended with close up of long cannon

Fully extended ARC-170, beautiful...if you ignore my forearm

Close up of the cockpit with twin engines

Shot from above, with view of rotating rear cannon

Lego Star Wars 8088 ARC-170 Starfighter Part 1

Moving on to one of my earliest completed sets, the Aggressive ReConnaissance-170 Starfighter. Bought it pretty early on when my interest in Lego picked up (plus I could not resist the cover art and the design of the fighter!). Currently, it is still one of the largest items taking up one huge corner of my shelf by itself.

Actual box art courtesy of Brickstation

Being one of my earlier sets, I did not take comprehensive pictures of it, nor did I take the box cover and packets before it was opened. Thus, the whole writeup would probably take only 2 parts, despite the size of the thing.

A comprehensive description and history of the ARC-170 can be found here at Wookieepedia for Star Wars fans.

I shall begin with the process for this part then.

Top view of the cockpit

The rear end with the clone pilot and R4-P44

The front with Captain Jag and Kit Fisto (who is armed with a light saber...incase)

Fully extendable cockpit covers

Huge engines and tail lasers added

Mechanism for opening and closing of the wings.

And the completed starfighter

Yup, a pity I have not thought about blogging at the time I created this. Ah well, till part 2!

It's a Lego Day!

Another day of fun for the kids today. Brought them out to catch Cars 2 at Plaza Singapura GV. Surprised that it really turned out to be a rather good animation with quite a bit of humor the kids could not catch. The car designs were another plus point considering there is Lego Cars theme now......

Visited Bricks World after that as they are having their 20% discount for members. I could not prevent myself from grabbing the new winter themed Winter Village Bakery (10216) for the upcoming holiday season. Bought three Hero Factory robots for my boys and my nephew. Just had to throw in a small Ninjago set as I could not resist the black ninja minifig.

And what a day of Lego! My orders from Brick Station also arrived in the evening! Got my dragon knights and lion knights set of minifigs from Kingdoms, my three advent calendars (including the two new ones just released) from Star Wars, City and Kingdoms, the collectors guide and Luke's Landspeeder.

Finished two simple sets of Ben 10 Aliens with the boys earlier on for them to play with before sorting out my sets. What a Lego Day!

Lego Sales @ United Square

Just went to United Square to have breakfast with the family. Shopped around for a while before joining in the TRU sale downstairs. When we arrived at 11 plus, the crowd was crazy, with long queues to go in and to pay. By the time we went down at about 1 plus, there was no longer any queue.

Not many sets left so grabbed some small sets and the Ben 10 ones for the kids. Managed to get the last piece of Emperor Palpatine's Shuttle (hidden at one corner!). Most of the stuff I got were around 40 to 50% off retail. Ah well, some discount is better than none especially when it's better than Metro's 20%.

Got a huge backlog of Lego to fix now!

Lego Products

Bought three large sets during the Metro sales over the weekend. At 20% off, it's always a good time to buy the usual larger retail set and enjoy a lightly better rate than any of our local stores selling lego exclusively. Now of course is to find the time to actually build them......

Also, spotted at Popular (Thomson Plaza), lego books that can be bought with 10% discount for usual Popular card holders. Grabbed the 2011 Lego annual, Star Wars Brick Master (the last set I saw there), Harry Potter Lego stickers and the Atlantis activity book. Did not buy the Atlantis Brick Master but will probably grab it someday.

I also bought a copy of Brick Journal at Secret Chamber and found out that there are e-versions of the magazine on sale at the parent website. You can find out more over at http://www.brickjournal.com/

Lego Star Wars 7915 Imperial V-wing Starfighter Part 2

Here's a quick continuation.

Starting with

Front white and top black plates to give it form.

Rear of the starfighter also taking shape

Sticker pasting for more ommph!

And following up

A more impressive close up with the folded tail wing (to protect poor R2-Q2)

"Who dares open my hatch?"

Here is a close up of the interesting "V" wings

Duo lasers at the bottom

Looks like twin mini-jets capable of auto attacking enemy ships.

The final part coming soon!

Lego Star Wars 7915 Imperial V-wing Starfighter Part 1

Hmm...my third post for the day (or night, rather). Wonder what the shadow's all about?

In any case, I shall start on my recently completed V-wing before I post some of the other older stuff made. You can refer to the link below for more in-depth info about the V-wing starfighters in the Star Wars universe.
