Lego Star Wars 8088 ARC-170 Starfighter Part 1

Moving on to one of my earliest completed sets, the Aggressive ReConnaissance-170 Starfighter. Bought it pretty early on when my interest in Lego picked up (plus I could not resist the cover art and the design of the fighter!). Currently, it is still one of the largest items taking up one huge corner of my shelf by itself.

Actual box art courtesy of Brickstation

Being one of my earlier sets, I did not take comprehensive pictures of it, nor did I take the box cover and packets before it was opened. Thus, the whole writeup would probably take only 2 parts, despite the size of the thing.

A comprehensive description and history of the ARC-170 can be found here at Wookieepedia for Star Wars fans.

I shall begin with the process for this part then.

Top view of the cockpit

The rear end with the clone pilot and R4-P44

The front with Captain Jag and Kit Fisto (who is armed with a light saber...incase)

Fully extendable cockpit covers

Huge engines and tail lasers added

Mechanism for opening and closing of the wings.

And the completed starfighter

Yup, a pity I have not thought about blogging at the time I created this. Ah well, till part 2!

Lego City 3366 Satellite Launch Pad Part 2

And to finish up the Lego Day, I thought...why not put up Part 2 too? The remaining images are the other small components of the set.

The small satellite to be sent to space to detect presence of Lego in the universe.

The rocket that will determine mankind's obsession in Lego!

And the rocket is ready for launch!

"Er...hold on...something's loose here..."

"Bring out the systems for analysis!"

Windows? Vista? 7? Mac OS X? Snow Leopard? Lion?

"So that's what's stopping all of us!" "Type type, click, click" *Slurps coffee...

All in all, it was great fun watching my boy put all these together! Will start work on the next project soon!

It's a Lego Day!

Another day of fun for the kids today. Brought them out to catch Cars 2 at Plaza Singapura GV. Surprised that it really turned out to be a rather good animation with quite a bit of humor the kids could not catch. The car designs were another plus point considering there is Lego Cars theme now......

Visited Bricks World after that as they are having their 20% discount for members. I could not prevent myself from grabbing the new winter themed Winter Village Bakery (10216) for the upcoming holiday season. Bought three Hero Factory robots for my boys and my nephew. Just had to throw in a small Ninjago set as I could not resist the black ninja minifig.

And what a day of Lego! My orders from Brick Station also arrived in the evening! Got my dragon knights and lion knights set of minifigs from Kingdoms, my three advent calendars (including the two new ones just released) from Star Wars, City and Kingdoms, the collectors guide and Luke's Landspeeder.

Finished two simple sets of Ben 10 Aliens with the boys earlier on for them to play with before sorting out my sets. What a Lego Day!

Lego City 3366 Satellite Launch Pad Part 1

Something light this time. The Satellite Launch Pad is part of the space sub theme under the city theme. I have all 4 sub sets and this particular one was given as a gift to my elder son on the birthday of my younger son. (He received the larger space shuttle and we have all just finished working on it today!)

I tasked my older boy to read the instructions and fix up the whole set by himself (with me supervising him by the side and stopping him from time to time to take photos) and I was glad he managed to accomplish the task happily.

Without further ado, here's the first of two short parters on the set.

Cover Art (forgot about the back cover, oops!)
2 packets, 1 instruction booklet, a set of stickers
The first of the two main items would be the transport van that houses the sophisticated equipment needed to launch the mini rocket.

A simple base with a hint of "reds" to come

Insides completed (driver missing!)

Completed product with a flatbed top

Frontal view (natural light washed out the details I suppose)

Lowering the rear door reveals......space! (no pun intended)

Perching precariously at the edge of my table

Will showcase the various components in the next post!

Borders 50% Sale @ Singapore Expo

Yes and I was there at about 2 plus in the afternoon. Parking was smooth unlike the NATAs Fair horrific scene over the previous weekend.

Stepped into the hall and I was shocked to see the sheer number of people......queuing up! The line snaked many times and around the hall before it eventually got to the cashier. Met a friend there who told us it was at least a 2 to 3 hour queue.

No pictures to show anything here as I had to bribe my kids with entertainment on the phone so they could survive the ordeal. Eventually, my wife and I managed to find several interesting books and decided to take turns staying in the queue. Started at about 3.40pm or so and finally arrived at the cashier close to 5.45pm.

For those who are interested in going, there was still half a hall of unopened boxes of books. I think they will open a set number of boxes everyday to add to those already on display so you don't lose out even if you go down on the last day. For me, I am very happy with my seven Raymond E. Fiest books!
